The Independence Golf Club first opened for play in October 2001. The course was designed by Tom Fazio.
The Independence Golf Club boasts two Tom Fazio designed tracks: an eighteen hole Championship Course and a nine-hole Short Course. The Independence Golf Club is the only daily-fee public courses in Virginia designed by Tom Fazio. The Independence Golf Club is also home to the Virginia State Golf Association headquarters, a museum dedicated to the history of golfing in Virginia, and an extensive junior golf education facility.
Both the 18-hole Championship Course and the 9-hole short course are seamlessly blended into the local topography, and the holes include a mixture of flat and rolling fairways that tree-lined, yet wide enough to allow room to breathe. The greens are guarded by well placed bunkers, and water comes into play on several holes in the form of wetlands. The Championship Course plays from 5,022 to 7,127-yards and there are five sets of tees to challenge all handicaps
Black tees: par-72, 7,127 yards, 74.6 / 139
Blue tees: par-72, 6,677 yards, 72.2 / 134

Course was played as one of the stops for the "Richmond,VA Section" Golf Channel Amature Tour Tournaments. The price represents the tournament cost which is excessive. The course is in it's Spring condition but during the normal golf season it is an exceptional course and a challenge.
